Flamingos are pink because of their staple meal - carotene-rich brine shrimp. Chicks are born with grey plumage, which turns from light pink to dark red, dependent on their food supply. Last but by no means least: If you hear a Welsh owl hoot in a densely populated urban area, a female somewhere has lost her virginity!
